DREADZONE

Genre: Dub
Press ReleaseDreadzone, the fervently followed British institution and original pioneers of UK bass culture are still going strong after eighteen years. Hit records, critical acclaim and a huge, devoted fan base are theirs, due in part to their utterly storming live shows. They released ‘The Good The Bad And The Dread’ – a compendium of their excellent musical story so far in 2011. The all-killer-no-filler 16 tracks collate the many highlights of ‘the Zone’s’ output to date – a coherent and still fresh-sounding body of work.
The core members Greg Dread, original bassmaster Leo Williams, the unmistakable MC Spee, legendary reggae vocalist Earl 16 alongside Chris Compton on guitar and Chris Oldfield on technology make up the current Dreadzone line up. Their roots are embedded in the history of West London sound clash and with a drum and bass partnership of 25 years this year Leo and Greg are still rolling strong and rocking the nation with their distinctive rhythms.
The Dreadzone story began with Alan McGee‘s Creation Records and their first groundbreaking album 360, continuing with major waves their seminal 1995 album Second Light picking up support from John Peel (who included the album in his top ten favourite albums of all time). The top 20 hit from that albumLittle Britain has since gone on to acquire classic status. Five critically acclaimed albums later they are set to remind people why the Dread sound is still very much a part of the musical landscape of this country.

Sion Russell Jones returns to Cornwall

Sion Russell Jones:

Siôn Russell Jones is a singer/songwriter from Cardiff, Wales. He has a unique and infectious vocal backed up by intricate guitar melodies and cracking choruses. In October 2010, Siôn released his debut album ‘And Suddenly’ via Still Small Voice Music, which he recorded during his final year at The Atrium School of Creative & Cultural Industries.

Siôn is currently writing material for his next release which he will showcase at SXSW, Austin Texas and Canadian Music Week, Toronto in March 2012.

‘Awesome. This young man has a fantastic future.’ – Mike Longley BBC Radio Wales

The Peoples String Foundation:

The South West is the appropriate home for the beautifully evocative, languid and lush music of The People’s String Foundation. Theirs is unfamiliar territory, scaling the heights of jazz, hip-hop beat-work, Middle Eastern melodies- performed with an eye toward experimentation and nods toward the avant-garde.

Kola:

Kola are a folk band from Cornwall who evolved over the winter of 2010/11. They perform live as an acoustic four piece but are often joined by additional strings, Brass and guitars to create the Kola collective. Obvious influence can be heard in Kola’s music from such greats as The Water boys, Fleetwood Mac, Credence Clearwater revival and The Kinks.
